HISTORY/DESCRIPTION: THE AUGSBURG BIBLE IS THE OLDEST SURVIVING GERMAN TRANSLATION OF THE NEW TESTAMENT THAT WAS WRITTEN BY HAND. THE AUGSBURG CONTAINS LECTIONARY AS WELL AS THE NICODEMUS GOSPEL. THE NEW TESTAMENT WAS TRANSLATED FROM THE LATIN VULGATE INTO OLD HIGH GERMAN AT THE MONASTERY OF FULDA AROUND 820, AND NOTKER THE GERMAN TRANSLATED PARTS OF THE BIBLE AT THE MONASTERY OF ST. GALL AROUND THE YEAR 1000. BY THE END OF THE FOURTEENTH CENTURY COMPLETE TRANSLATIONS OF THE OF THE NEW TESTAMENT WE AVAILABLE, LIKE THE AUGSBURG BIBLE.

THE SIGNATURES/PAGES ARE HANDSEWN USING A LIBRARY BINDING METHOD. THE SEWN BOOK IS BOUND WITH A STRONG ADHESIVE GLUE THAT MAKES THE BINDINGS LAST, ESPECIALLY FOR THE LARGER BOOKS. WE ALSO ADD A THICK MULL CLOTH TO THE OUTSIDE OF THE BINDING, DRYING IN BETWEEN EACH LAYER, A TRADITIONAL WAY TO MAKE THE BINDING STIFF, STRONG, AND RESILIENT FOR GENERATIONS TO COME.
